Sobella is a personal wellness app designed to support people who want to change their relationship with alcohol. It provides a private journal, an AI companion for reflection and encouragement, a coping toolkit, alcohol-free drink ideas, and guided meditations.
Sobella is operated by Richard Holmes, trading as Sobella, based in the United Kingdom ("Sobella", "we", "us", "our"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Sobella iOS app and the sobella.app website (together, "the Service").
For questions about these Terms, contact us at support@sobella.app.
You must be at least 17 years of age to use Sobella. By using the Service, you confirm that you meet this requirement. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has created an account, please contact us at support@sobella.app and we will promptly delete the account.
If you are concerned about your relationship with alcohol or your mental health, please speak to a qualified healthcare professional. If you are in crisis, please contact a crisis service immediately (see Section 14).
To use most features of Sobella, you must create an account using a valid email address. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity that occurs under your account.
You agree to provide accurate and complete information when creating your account and to keep it up to date.
You may delete your account at any time from within the app (Settings → Delete Account) or by contacting us at support@sobella.app. Upon deletion, your personal data will be removed from our live systems within 30 days, as described in our Privacy Policy.
You agree not to:
Sobella's AI companion is powered by Anthropic's Claude API and is designed to provide supportive, encouraging responses. By using the AI companion, you acknowledge:
You retain ownership of all content you create in Sobella — including journal entries, check-in responses, and custom tools. We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your content.
By storing content in Sobella, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to store, display, and transmit that content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. This licence terminates when you delete your account.
Your journal entries and personal data are private and are not shared with other users or third parties, except as described in our Privacy Policy.
All content, design, code, trademarks, and other materials in the Sobella app and website that are not your user content are owned by or licensed to Sobella. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without our prior written permission.
Sobella offers a free tier and a paid subscription called Sobella Pro. Pro unlocks unlimited AI companion chat, the full lifestyle tracker, and the complete pep talk library. The following terms apply to Sobella Pro:
We aim to keep Sobella available at all times, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may temporarily suspend access for maintenance, security, or technical reasons.
We reserve the right to modify, discontinue, or add features to the Service at any time. We will endeavour to give reasonable advance notice of significant changes that affect paid subscribers.
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Service will meet your specific requirements, that it will be error-free, or that any defects will be corrected.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Sobella's total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you paid to Sobella in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) £50.
In no event shall Sobella be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Sobella and its officers, employees, and agents from any claims, losses, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the Service, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any third party's rights.
